Virginia Briefing – $28.5 Million Gift Targets HIV

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $28.5 million to Eastern Virginia Medical School's CONRAD program to help develop HIV-preventing microbicides. The Associated Press reported that “CONRAD has been researching and testing microbicides for 20 years...the World Health Organization has urged development of microbicides as an alternative to condoms in poor countries.” The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated $28.5 million to Eastern Virginia Medical School's CONRAD program to help develop HIV-preventing microbicides.
